You can make Baked Burgers right inside your oven. Cook them on a baking sheet when it’s raining or too cold to go outside and grill.
Burgers are one of my go-to meals for entertaining. When I have a lot of people over, I like to grill up plenty of them and my favorite grilled chicken. But, when the weather isn’t cooperating, I like to make baked burgers. It’s a really tasty and convenient way to make them.

How To Make Baked Burgers
Mix up your seasonings and gently mix into your ground beef. I like seasoning salt, garlic and onion powder, and pepper, but you could also use this great Burger Seasoning Mix. Be careful not to overwork the meat. You want tender, juicy burgers and working it too much can make it tough.
To make burgers in the oven, I take my best burger recipe, and instead of grilling the burger patties, I lay a bunch of patties on a cooling rack set inside of a baking sheet with a rim. When my oven is preheated, I pop them inside and let them cook until the timer goes off.
Tip: This baking sheet works great because it comes with a cooling rack that fits right inside of it.
This is also great for when the grill is really crowded with other things, like corn on the cob or that chicken I was talking about earlier. I set buns and a variety of my favorite burger toppings and condiments on the counter and guests can assemble them straight off the baking sheet however they like.
The recipe below makes 6-8 burgers, but you can always double or even triple the recipe depending on who you’re feeding.
Getting Flavorful Burgers In The Oven
I’m sure you’re wondering how you get that same great grilled flavor from cooking burgers in the oven. That’s easy. I cook the burgers at 400°F until they’re about done. Then, I top them with cheese and place them under the broiler for a couple of minutes to melt the cheese and give the burgers a little char from the flame.
While we’re talking about cheese, I like to grate cheese from a block myself, usually Cheddar cheese, and use that for burgers. Of course, you can use any kind of cheese you like, but I think freshly grated cheese is the best because it melts so well.
You can also add great flavor by skipping the ketchup and whipping up my tasty Burger Sauce instead. I love to pair that with lettuce and tomato on my cheeseburger, maybe some pickles too. If you want a little heat, Sriracha Mayo is the way to go.
Now you have a way to make a great burger without the grill anytime, regardless of the weather! Pair the baked hamburgers with French fries and no one will mind if the weather is bad.

DESCRIPTION
You can make Baked Burgers right inside your oven. Cook them on a baking sheet when it’s raining or too cold to go outside and grill.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. ground chuck (or use lean ground beef for a leaner burger, or a mixture of the two)
- 2 tsp. seasoning salt
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 cup grated cheese of choice
- 6 buns
- Burger toppings of choice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large bowl combine beef, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper just until combined. Do not over-mix or burgers will be tough.
- Divide meat mixture into 6 equal portions (you can do 8 instead if you want a smaller patty). Shape each into a tight ball. Use hands to flatten the ball into a disc. Make it thinner in the center. Smooth any cracks at the edges with the palm of your hand.
- Place the patties onto a cooling rack set into a baking sheet with a rim.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they’re no longer brown in the middle. An internal thermometer will read 165°F.
- Sprinkle cheese on each burger and turn the oven to low broil. Broil for 1-3 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
- Serve with buns and toppings of choice.
