Simple Charcuterie Formula
My no-fail charcuterie formula works for any size board. This recipe serves six, and can be easily doubled, tripled, or quadrupled to feed a crowd.
The charcuterie board formula is:
- 1 dip or condiment, like jam or mustard
- 2 cheeses
- 2 meats
- 2 styles of crackers
- 1 fresh fruit
- 1 dried fruit
- 1 type of nut
Choosing Charcuterie Ingredients
Using the above formula as a guide, it’s time to pick your specific ingredients. For this Thanksgiving version, I wanted to keep in mind both fall colors and flavors. You can use my recipe as written or as a jumping off point for a board that’s perfect for you.
A variety of dark brown seed crackers can usually be found in the artisan cracker section of your grocery store. Check directly in the cracker aisle, and if they’re not there, check in the specialty cheese section.
For my condiment, I choose to make a honey mustard. I wanted lots of oranges on the board, so I went with Cheddar and Colby Jack as the cheeses. Salami and prosciutto work well as the meats, but you can switch them up.
For the fruit and nuts, I decided to go with mandarin orange segments, dried cranberries, and candied pecans. So good!
The festive, fall leaf toothpicks can be found on Amazon and are great not only for decoration, but also for grabbing meat and cheese.
Making A Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board
To make this simple charcuterie board, first select a 10-inch round board, plate, or platter. Then, in a small bowl mix together the mustard and honey. Transfer the mixture into a small Ramekin and place this near the corner or edge of the board or platter as a focal point. Arrange the crackers around the edge of the board or platter, on either side of the mustard. Then add the cheese around the edge of the board or platter, opposite the mustard.
Add the meats and orange segments in the middle of the board or platter, and then fill in the spaces with the nuts and dried cranberries. Top with edible fall leaves, which you can also find on Amazon.
