Simple Charcuterie Formula
My no-fail simple charcuterie formula works for any size board. This recipe serves six, and can be easily doubled, tripled, or quadrupled to feed a crowd.
The charcuterie board formula is:
- 1 dip or condiment, like jam or mustard
- 2 cheeses
- 2 meats
- 2 styles of crackers
- 1 fresh fruit
- 1 dried fruit
- 1 type of nut
This can be used to make all sorts of themed or seasonal snack boards. I’ll soon be adding boards for Thanksgiving and Christmas as well.
Perfect For Halloween
You can use my simple formula to create a easy and delicious charcuterie board for any occasion. For Halloween, I decided to look for orange and black ingredients. Of course, if you’re a horror fan, you might want black and white with splashes of red. Once you know the elements of a great snack board, it’s easy to adjust!
For this Halloween charcuterie board, I’m getting the orange from my cheeses (I chose Cheddar and Colby Jack), the dried apricots, and my sweet and spicy jam mixture. To add in some black elements, I went with the darkest grapes I could find and black crackers.
A variety of black and orange crackers can usually be found in the artisan cracker section of your grocery store. Sometimes this will be directly in the cracker aisle, or can also be located with the specialty cheeses.
The festive toothpicks with jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and witch hats can be found online. They are decorative and functional.
Making Your Halloween Charcuterie Board
To make this simple charcuterie board, first select a 10-inch round board, plate, or platter. Then, in a small bowl mix together the apricot jam and chili sauce. Transfer the mixture into a small Ramekin and place this near the corner or edge of the board or platter as a focal point.
Arrange the crackers around the edge of the board or platter, on either side of the jam. Then add the cheese around the edge of the board or platter, opposite the jam. One of the cheeses can also be placed next to the black seed crackers for a more dramatic effect
Add the meats and grapes in the middle of the board or platter, and then fill in the spaces with the nuts and dried fruit. Stick some of your decorative toothpicks in the meat and cheese, and have more available alongside your board.
