Air Fryer Baked Eggs cooked in ramekins make for a tasty, time-saving breakfast!
Baked eggs, also known as shirred eggs, are a great breakfast or brunch option. Traditionally, they’re baked in a wide, shallow dish until the whites are just set and the yolks are still runny. Baked eggs have a texture similar to poached eggs, but with more surface area that makes them perfect for sprinkling with fresh herbs, cheese, or breadcrumbs.
Air Fryer Baked Eggs
Why make baked eggs in an air fryer instead of the oven? If you ask me, there’s one huge benefit to baking eggs in your air fryer: time. I’m not a morning person, so I don’t like to spend a ton of time or energy cooking breakfast. Cooking eggs in an air fryer takes about 10 minutes – less time than it takes just for my oven to heat up or a pot of water to boil!
4 ounce ramekins or souffle cups are perfect for making baked eggs in your air fryer. They’re small enough to hold just 1 or 2 eggs perfectly, and they heat evenly. They do get very hot though, so be sure to use a pair of tongs to carefully remove them from the air fryer basket. Don’t touch them or you might burn your fingers! I can easily fit 4 small ramekins into my 2.6 quart Crux air fryer.
If you don’t have ramekins, you can also use silicone cupcake liners. These also work well, but since they have slightly less surface area, the egg white will be deeper and might need an extra minute to set. Since the silicone isn’t rigid, they can also be more difficult to move in and out of your air fryer.
Why Add Milk to Baked Eggs?
Baked eggs often have a splash of milk stirred into the eggs whites. While it isn’t necessary, the milk keeps the egg whites tender and prevents them from getting rubbery if they overcook. Since these air fryer baked eggs tend to cook from the outside in, I like to add this as extra insurance that the outermost portion of the white won’t overcook before the parts closer to the yolk set.
