Air Fryer Shrimp Toast

Are you in love with making Shrimp Toast but don’t love fried food? Make it in the air fryer for a faster, cleaner and healthier way to get one of your favorite dim sum cart delicacies.

Ever since I’ve discovered how to make Shrimp Toast at home, I’ve been making it all of the time. It’s a great dish to whip up and cut into small triangles for when I have guests over. Or, it’s a delicious afternoon snack for me that makes me feel like I’m eating in my favorite Chinese restaurant.

What Kind Of Shrimp Should I Use?

I like to keep my freezer stocked with a few bags of frozen shrimp, here’s how I easily defrost it. I buy the best quality of frozen shrimp I can find. Generally, the shrimp is directly frozen after it is caught, so it’s still really fresh when I thaw it out and it has great flavor.

Making Air Fryer Shrimp Toast

To make the shrimp part of the toast, you combine the raw, thawed shrimp with flavorful ingredients like cilantro, ginger, soy sauce, green onions, and garlic.

It turns into a paste of sorts that gets spread onto slices of bread. This is the part where I would normally start heating up some oil and begin the task of frying, making my kitchen a mess and getting oil everywhere.

While this is fun when I have the time, the air fryer is the secret to shrimp toast fast. It’s also a lot healthier, too because you don’t need all of that oil.

All you need to do is preheat the air fryer to 370 degrees and pop the toast in the basket while the shrimp paste is still raw. The air fryer will take care of the rest, and you’ll have crispy and delicious shrimp toast in no time at all.

DESCRIPTION

Are you in love with making Shrimp Toast but don’t love fried food? Make it in the air fryer for a faster, cleaner and healthier way to get one of your favorite dim sum cart delicacies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lb. shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 scallions, sliced thinly on the diagonal
  • 2 tsp. corn starch
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. ginger, peeled and grated
  • 4 sandwich bread slices, crusts removed and cut into 16 triangles
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • Scallions, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the shrimp, egg, cilantro, scallions, cornstarch, garlic, soy sauce, and ginger in the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Pulse the mixture until a smooth paste is formed. If there are some lumps it’s OK.
  3. Place the sesame seeds on a small plate.
  4. Spread the shrimp mixture of each of the bread triangles.
  5. Dip half of the bread triangles, shrimp side down in the sesame seeds and coat evenly.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F for 3 minutes
  7. Lay the bread in the bottom of the tray, shrimp side up. You may need to do this in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
  8. Set the time for 6-8 minutes, checking halfway through the cooking process to make sure it isn’t burning.
  9. Once golden and crispy on top, remove the toast, slice diagonally to form triangles and serve while hot with a sprinkling of green onion.
