Today I’ve joined up with Around My Family Table and other bloggers to bring you a Vonny Bags Giveaway. The giveaway is for a Casserole Tote and a Deviled Egg Carrier. They are the coolest bags ever. Seriously. I totally wish I’d had the casserole tote on the night I’m going to tell you about today, that’s for sure!

Vonny Bags Giveaway

There are some nights that you will never forget. Your wedding night, your first night with a newborn in the house, the first time you stayed up all night dancing your butt off, the night your family got lost in the Bronx driving a massive red and white striped van.

And there’s the night you walked up and down St. Claire Street in Toronto carefully carrying a casserole full of perogies in front of you, a backpack with two bottles of red wine and a loaf of homemade potato bread on your back.

I was going to a potluck at a new friend’s house. I misread the directions and got off the subway at St. Claire Station instead of St. Claire West Station (what kind of city names their stations so similarly?). The problem was that I didn’t realize my mistake. I exited the train station and followed the directions my friend had given me: “Exit the station. Head towards St. Claire Street and turn left. Walk until you get to my street.”

I walked and walked and walked, perogies awkwardly carried in front of me, wondering when I would ever get to her street.

I finally found a pay phone and called her. I described to her where I was and she, not realizing that I had gotten off at the wrong station, said that I must have turned the wrong way on St. Claire. I had to go back the way I’d come.

Seriously? All that way?? Carrying these frigging perogies???

I walked for a little while. And then I muttered, “Oh screw it!” and I hailed a cab. And thank god I did.

It’s kind of confusing and complicated but because I had gotten off at the wrong station and turned the way I had and walked for so long, I had actually almost reached her house before I called her on the payphone. I then turned and was walking AWAY from her house. When I got in the cab, he turned around and went the way I had originally been walking.

Here’s a map I’ve drawn to help because even I’m confused at this point.

The route I took while awkwardly carrying a casserole full of perogies. If only I'd had a Vonny Caserole Tote like the one in today's Vonny Casserole Tote Giveaway.

I cannot even begin to tell you how confused I was when the cab turned and drove in the way I’d originally been walking. But at that point I didn’t give a cr*p and was just happy to be able to put the perogies down.

Finally, I arrived. I ate lasagna, pita, hummus, salad, a strange rice dish, egg rolls and perogies. And I drank a lot of wine.

I’ve never forgotten the feeling of carrying that casserole in front of me for that long walk.

It sucked.

If only I’d had an iphone back then. I would have instantly known where I was and where I was going. A Vonny Casserole Tote would have helped too since it would have made carrying the perogies much much easier. And so today I’m so excited to be participating in the Vonny Casserole Tote and Deviled Egg Carrier giveaway. If you win this prize I bet you will never ever find yourself awkwardly carring a casserole full of perogies up and down St. Claire Street. Lucky you!

Sherry, I haven’t told the Bronx story on here. I’m going to have to soon. I’ll find a way to work it in eventually.
