Microwave Bacon

Microwave Bacon takes the mess and stress out of everyone’s favorite part of breakfast!

Everybody loves bacon, right? Not only is it great for breakfast but it can be added to lots of dishes as well. Chop some up and add it your Potato Soup Recipe or use it to make a delicious Bacon Gravy!

What I don’t love is cooking bacon on the stove – it can be messy and time consuming and I really don’t want to keep an eye on it when I’m busy with other things. The microwave is the solution, at least some of the time. Find out below when it is best to cook bacon in the microwave.

Why Cook Bacon In The Microwave?

Cooking bacon in the microwave is great for when you only need a few slices. It tends to splatter less which means less clean up for you too. (If you do get some splatters, put a mug with water and a bit of lemon juice in the microwave for a minute afterwards. It’ll steam and make for an easy wipe-down.)

By cooking the bacon in the microwave for a minute at a time, which is what I do, you can also check in between your other meal preparation and get it to the perfect crispiness for you.

When To Use Other Methods

There are some cons which means this method may not always be the best choice. First, you can only make so many slices at a time with this method. I find 6-8 slices is the max because they need to lay on a plate without touching. Also, you don’t end up with any tasty bacon fat with this method, since it all gets soaked up by the paper towel beneath the bacon.

If you only want a few slices but need the bacon fat for the rest of your cooking, I suggest using the air fryer. And if you’re cooking for a crowd, cooking bacon in the oven is always a good option. You can also cook bacon from frozen!

How To Microwave Bacon

It may seem strange to go to your microwave to prepare bacon, but trust me and give it a try.

First, you’ll line a plate with paper towels and then lay your bacon slices down, not letting them touch. Put another slice of paper towel on top. Microwave for 1 minute at a time until it starts to darken in places. Then switch to 30-second intervals. You may find you need to move the slices around or flip them to get them to cook evenly in your microwave. Also, remove individual slices if they’re cooked, even if others in there still aren’t ready.

With such a convenient and mess-free method, I bet you’ll be on the lookout for more meals that include bacon!

Microwave Bacon takes the mess and stress out of everyone’s favorite part of breakfast!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 slices uncooked bacon

Instructions

  1. Line a microwave-safe plate with 2 sheets of paper towel.
  2. Arrange the bacon slices on the paper towel in a single, non-overlapping layer. Top with another sheet of paper towel.
  3. Put the plate of bacon into the microwave and microwave on high for 1 minute at a time until bacon starts to darken in places.
  4. Cook bacon for 30 seconds at a time until it reaches desired doneness. To help bacon cook evenly, move slices around the plate as the cook. If any slice is done before the others, remove it so that it doesn’t overcook while the others finish.
