Kebabs with Apple and Sausage: Guest Post at DoughMessTic

Today I have a guest post over at Doughmesstic where I’m sharing my recipe for Kebabs with Apple and Sausage.

Did you know that you can make kebabs with sausage? Maybe you did (aren’t you smart!). But I only recently discovered it on Pinterest when I was adding kebab recipes to my Skewers Board. And I fell in love with the idea. They’re one of the best make-ahead BBQ ideas I’ve seen in a long time.

I’m obsessed with having make-ahead food when we host parties. For our Memorial Day BBQ I slow-cooked ribs in the oven (like these) and I slow-cooked chicken drumsticks in the oven too (recipe coming soon!). Then Graz took the trays of saucey fully-cooked meat to the grill and tossed it all on to warm it through and add a bit of char. It was perfect.

To go with our ribs and chicken I made a simple cold veggie salad and one of our guests brought macaroni salad. There was so little to do once the guests arrived that I spent much of the afternoon chatting while sitting in a lawn chair sipping on this Homemade Berry Wine Cooler.

These Kebabs with Apple and Sausage are another easy make-ahead party food. And they will definitely be showing up at our next BBQ.

Kebabs with apple and sausage
You use fully cooked sausage, like kielbasa. I used a Pork and Apple Sausage that I found in the organic lunchmeat section of my grocery store. You thread the sausage onto skewers with pieces of Vidalia onion and wedges of Envy apples. These apples are the perfect choice because they don’t brown after being cut. You can thread your skewers ahead of time and not worry about the apples getting ugly. And they don’t turn a cooked-apple-color on the grill either. They stay nice and white, except in places where there are grill marks, of course.

Put the skewers in a pan and top them with a mixture of grainy mustard and honey. Refrigerate. When the guests arrive, pop the skewers on the grill. Cook until everthings hot and there are some grill marks here and there. Everything is fully-cooked so no worrying about whether they’re done or not. If they’re hot, they’re good to eat!

    YUM! I LOVE the way that apples and sausage pair together, this just screams FALL GRILLING to me, I will for sure be saving it for a fall cookout (if I can wait that long)!
