Great prizes, right?

I mean, beautiful summery Vidalia onions delivered right to your door! And I so love those squeezable Gourmet Garden Herbs. And I am totally jealous that I can’t win that “I love avocados” shirt. I think if I could win it, I’d get a small size so that my 5-year-old could wear it (he’s the biggest avocado-lover I’ve ever met!). And a $50 Visa gift card? Who doesn’t want that????

Now let me draw your attention to one other prize in those prize packages: The Summer Thyme cookbook by Jennifer Dempsey of Mother Thyme.

If you don’t already know of Jennifer, you should. Her blog is so welcoming and her pictures and recipes are bright and fresh. And now she has this beautiful cookbook to show off her best summer recipes.

From the blue gingham-inspired cover to the recipe ideas and pictures, everything in this book makes me feel like sipping on mojitos with friends while meat grills and kids run through sprinklers.

Mix it all up….then I add red and green grapes, and a can or mandarin oranges. refrigerate…and it tastes so good on warm days with the fruit and chicken!

    • Barb — June 27, 2013 @ 11:55 am (#)

Two Different salads as my daughter is a vegetarian one classic with the addition of fried bologna along with red pepper (no olives YUK!) The second no meat but add nutritional yeast flakes to ramp up flavor.(not as bad as it sounds haha)

    • Christine Pittman — June 27, 2013 @ 7:15 pm (#)

Barb, These sound so interesting! What kind of salad are you adding the bologna to? I love fried bologna (we called it Poor Man’s Steak when growing up) and would love ideas of places to use it.

my favorite picnic foods are grilled hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixins!

    • Christine Pittman — June 27, 2013 @ 11:04 am (#)

It’s really all about the fixins, isn’t it? A plain burger or plain hotdog is kind of boring. But once you add all the ketchup, mustard, onions, sauerkroaut, tomatoes, pickles, mayo, lettuce, cheese or get crazy with jalapeno rings, avocado…well the possibilities are endless and the results are so so so good.
