Types Of Chocolate Dip
Lots of recipes for chocolate dip are essentially a chocolate ganache – semi-sweet chocolate chips, heavy cream, and sometimes flavoring like vanilla extract. It’s delicious, but that kind of recipe requires microwaving or heating over a double boiler to melt the chocolate. It’s also really rich, so I often only want a small amount.
There are also dips that are similar to homemade chocolate sauce. That recipe can be used as a dip, but it’s a thinner consistency that works great for stirring into drinks or drizzling over dessert. You can also turn that one into “Magic Shell” with some coconut oil.
The chocolate dip recipe that I’m sharing with you here is super easy and perfect for dipping all sorts of delicious things thanks to my special ingredient, Greek yogurt.
Why Make Chocolate Dip With Greek Yogurt?
Well, first of all, you should make it because it’s so good! But there’s plenty of other reasons too.
It’s Easier. Since there’s no heating or melting required, it’s quick and simple to put together.
It’s Healthier. We’re using Greek yogurt and cocoa powder instead of cream and chocolate chips for this dessert dip. With less calories, that means I can eat more of it, right?
Perfect Dipping Consistency. The Greek yogurt as the base maintains the perfect consistency for dipping. No need to worry about it getting too firm to dip your fruit in at room temperature or it being too runny and making a mess.
How To Make The Easiest Chocolate Dip
I invented this chocolatey, decadent, yet healthy fruit dip because I need desserts to be easy to make. It’s made of Greek Yogurt, cocoa, and brown sugar.
There’s cinnamon in there too. Oh, and there’s an optional pinch of cayenne to give this chocolate fruit dip a little something extra. Both these ingredients go so well with chocolate.
I swear, it’s the easiest and tastiest thing I make when friends visit. Just mix and serve. Even I don’t mind doing that!
What To Serve With Chocolate Yogurt Dip
I love to serve this chocolate dip with an assortment of fresh berries. Strawberries, of course, but raspberries, blackberries, or whatever your favorites are! Not into berries? Banana or other fruits work well here too.
You don’t have to serve it with just fruit though, get creative. Marshmallows, sweet biscuits, shortbread, pretzels… hard to go wrong here. Experiment and let me know in the comments what your favorites are with this delicious dark chocolate dip. I’ve been told it’s great for crepes too.

DESCRIPTION
This fruit dip is easy to make, healthy AND decadent. It’s the perfect dip to make when company is coming over for coffee or drinks.
The cayenne pepper in the recipe is optional. Try adding a tiny pinch, mix it in and then taste. You shouldn’t be able to tell it’s there. It’s just a little background tingle that makes the dip extra special.
After further testing, I have reduced the vanilla and cinnamon from the original recipe.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
- 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
- Fresh berries, marshmallows, and sweet biscuits (for dipping)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.
- Stir until it is an even dark color and all of the brown sugar granules have dissolved, about 3 minutes.
- Serve with fresh berries, marshmallows, and sweet biscuits for dipping.

I often have fruit with yogurt and honey for lunch, but I don’t think of it as a dip. One thing I do like for dessert with fruit–especially strawberries–is sour cream mixed with a little brown sugar. Simple but really good.

Christine, I don’t know if you got my response about the lime yogurt dip . . . I responded but it only seems to appear if you ‘hover’ over the Reply button (which is really weird). But, in case you can’t see my response, here it is . . . the lime yogurt dip is 8 oz Cool Whip (I use light) and 2 6oz containers of Yoplait Key Lime yogurt mixed together. Easy peasy. I actually got the recipe from another food blogger (http://www.iheartnaptime.net/key-lime-yogurt-fruit-dip/). I imagine it would be good with any kind of yogurt; I just happen to love key lime.
Christine Pittman says
Sharon, This sounds fantastic! Thanks so much. Can’t wait to give it a try.
Wendy | Around My Family Table says
Looks yummy. I love fruit with yogurt dip, the cocoa can only make it that much better!
Christine Pittman says
The cocoa is wonderful in there. It makes it like a cold chocolate fondue. I can’t stop eating it! Thanks for visiting :)
dayna says
what flavor yogurt to use? plain? vanilla?
Christine Pittman says
Dayna, I use plain. You could use vanilla but then I would add less brown sugar. Start with 1 tablespoon, taste and add more if necessary.
Sharon K says
I have a lime yogurt fruit dip that is easy and delish! This dark chocolate yogurt dip sounds heavenly!
Christine Pittman says
Sharon, What’s in the lime yogurt dip? It sounds delicious! Thanks :)
Sharon K says
Christine, It is very easy — 8 oz Cool Whip (i use light) and 2 6 oz containers of Key Lime yogurt (I used Yoplait, but I am sure it would be good with any preferred brand of key lime flavored yogurt) and just mix it together. It has a nice lime flavor, not overpowering and is very refreshing. I imagine that you could use any flavor of yogurt. (I got the recipe from another food blogger: http://www.iheartnaptime.net/key-lime-yogurt-fruit-dip/). Enjoy!!
Sharon K says
This sounds yummy! I love dark chocolate and love Greek yogurt . . . will definitely have to try this!
Christine Pittman says
Sharon, thanks so much. If you try it, do let me know. I’d love to hear what you think.
Ada ~ More Food, Please says
My favorite fruit dip would be simple–Greek yogurt with honey.
Christine Pittman says
Ada, I also love Greek yogurt with honey. Or with fig preserves! That’s what I had for breakfast today. It was wonderful.
Karen says
A mixture of yogurt and cream cheese with lemon and vanilla.
Christine Pittman says
Karen, I’m curious: Does it end up tasting a bit like cheesecake? I do a drizzle on pastries that has cream cheese in it and that’s the effect I get. Love it!
Karen Lynch says
Yes it does. Sometime I want to do a mixture with some Greek yogurt to lower the fat content.
Christine Pittman says
I think it would be great with Greek Yogurt. Or even just half as Greek Yogurt. Worth a shot!
Barbara Mc / Whenihave Time says
I love caramel or chocolate dip with fruit!
Christine Pittman says
Barbara, I agree! Caramel is one of my favorites too.
Heather says
My favorite fruit dip is marshmallow fluff and cream cheese whipped together. Yummy!!
Christine Pittman says
Heather, That sounds AMAZING. Is it equal amounts of fluff and cream cheese? I have to try it!
Heather says
yes, I usually use a small jar of fluff and an 8 oz block of cream cheese. Whip together and enjoy! You can eat it with spoon, it’s that good!!
Christine Pittman says
Heather, I am absolutely swooning. I might have to go get the ingredients to try it immediately!
Jennie says
Raspberry yogurt mixed with cool whip. So light and delish!
Christine Pittman says
Jennie, That sounds so good! Is it equal amounts yogurt and cool whip? I can’t wait to try it.
Jennie says
I would recommend starting with equal amounts, and then just adjust according to your taste. Strawberry yogurt is also really good for this too, but I prefer the tartness of raspberry. Yoplait yogurt works really well for this mix. I have also frozen the mixture and it’s kind of like a lowfat semifreddo. Just thaw 5-10 mins before serving. Hope you like it! :)
Christine Pittman says
Thanks Jennie!
Elizabeth G. says

Elizabeth, My kids dip fruit in plain (or flavored) yogurt all the time. It’s a favorite of theirs for sure.

Sheri, What an amazing idea. I love lemon and vanilla together. Do you use equal amounts of curd and yogurt or would the lemon flavor be too strong?

I like Greek Yogurt, seasoned with spices (cinnamon, etc) and some brown sugar.

MaryB, That sounds wonderful. I bet a cinnamon dip with apple slices would be incredible.
