100+ delicious brunch recipes perfect for Mother's Day or any brunch, like this Hot Walnut Maple Coffee Float by @cookthestory

Here’s the thing. I’ve never (never!) had people over for brunch before. We’ve done at least one thousand eight hundred and forty-six dinner parties. We’ve had barbecues. We’ve had tons of people over for Thanksgivings. We’ve done lunches, appetizer parties, cocktail parties, a sparkling wine party. But for some reason we have never done brunch.

I think we’ve been missing out on a whole avenue of entertaining possibilities!

And so, when Terri from Love and Confections asked if I wanted to help her organize something called #BrunchWeek I jumped at the chance, jumped as high and as excitedly as a four-year-old on a trampoline!

I don’t think I had any idea what I was getting myself into. Seriously, this whole #BrunchWeek thing has become HUGE. We have 32 bloggers participating and 8 sponsors who have together donated enough prizes that we will have TWENTY winners. That’s pretty amazing, right? (This giveaway is now closed).

The best part is, I am going to have so many delicious brunch recipes to show off at our first ever brunch party! Let me tell you. Combined the bloggers have whipped up over one hundred brunch recipes. And they’ve been talking about these brunch recipes non-stop as I’ve been droolingly waiting to see the pictures.

I’m going to give you my first Brunch Week Recipe now. Head on down below it to see ALL of our amazing sponsors and prizes, to enter the giveaway and to get  links to today’s round of Brunch Recipes from the bloggers who are participating today.

One of my all-time favorite hot drink recipes:

Over 100 delicious brunch recipes perfect for Mother's Day or any brunch, like this Hot Walnut Maple Coffee Float by @cookthestory

My first Brunch Week recipe is one of my all-time favorite hot drink recipes. It’s for a Maple Walnut Coffee Float: Hot walnut flavored coffee sweetened with maple syrup and topped with a scoop of ice cream. Sit back and sip while the ice cream thickens the coffee with creaminess and makes you smile. What a way to start (or finish!) brunch, right?

If you don’t have walnut (or other nut) flavored coffee, don’t worry. Hot drink recipes are notoriously easy to switch up. Just use plain coffee and then put out a bowl of toasted walnuts for everyone to nibble on as they sip. It’s kind of amazing.

Now here’s my hot maple walnut coffee float recipe

Hot Maple Walnut Coffee Float

This is one of my all time favorite hot drink recipes. It's a hot coffee treat that uses Walnut flavored coffee as its base. If you can't find any, no worries. Just use regular coffee and then put out a bowl of toasted walnuts for people to munch on as they sip.

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 and 1/4 cups of very hot walnut flavored coffee
  • 1 small scoop of ice cream (vanilla or chocolate)

  1. Warm up a 10 oz coffee mug by filling it with boiling or hot tap water. Wait one minute and then empty out the mug.
  2. Measure in the maple syrup. Top with the hot coffee and stir for a moment.
  3. Gently drop in the scoop of ice cream. Don't stir.
  4. Just sip (and maybe munch on some walnuts) while the ice cream slowly melts into the coffee.

I can’t believe you have never hosted a brunch woman. That’s wild. We do brunch for family on holidays, so annually on New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We tend to do them when family visits too. But they are daunting, there’s so many foods to have ready at the same time and not many can be cooked ahead. I tend to over do it and do 10 things. It’s fun though. We’ll have to have brunch some day.

What a great drink. My hubby would totally dig this. He’s a coffee guy big time.

Thanks for hosting this week. Thrilled to be part of it.

  9. Suzanne — May 5, 2013 @ 8:34 pm (#)

I’m not a coffee drinker, so I would never think to put some ice cream in it. That sounds wonderful! Thanks for hosting BrunchWeek.

  10. Allison (Spontaneous Tomato) — May 5, 2013 @ 1:42 pm (#)

This looks amazingly delicious, Christine! Would never have thought of involving ice cream in a brunch dish, but why not!? :) Plus I absolutely love the flavors of both walnuts and coffee.
