Let me tell you, I thought I was being très originale by “inventing” this little sandwich. But it turns out that it’s a French thing and variations of it have appeared all over the place, even in Saveur Magazine.

The fact that I wasn’t the first to come up with it doesn’t make it a bad sandwich though. Non! Non! Non! Pas de tout! If multiple people are slapping butter on bread and adding salted radishes, you simply need to try it too. C’est très délicieux. Je vous promets!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of whole wheat bread
  • 4 tsp. salted butter, softened
  • 4 radishes, thinly sliced
  • 4 big pinches coarse sea salt (I use Maldon salt)

Instructions

  1. Place the bread on a plate. Divide butter between slices and spread to coat.
  2. Lay the radishes in a single slightly overlapping layer on the slices of buttered bread.
  3. Sprinkle radishes with sea salt.
