BBQ Sauce with Mango, Chipotle & Lime (and Music, Please)
Today I’m sharing a recipe for a Mango Chipotle Lime BBQ Sauce. This is one of those sweet, spicy and tangy sauces that hits every one of your taste buds. You’ve got to try it! I collaborated with the Vidalia Onion Commission to bring you this post.
I have plans for today: I’m determined to create one of those perfect summer afternoons with kids shrieking through sprinklers, the smell of sweet BBQ sauce rising from the grill, The Hubs in a lawn chair next to me, a beer in his hand, a cherry margarita in mine.
See, perfect. Well almost. Something’s missing.
As summer ended last year I told you that I would always remember those hot month because the music and and food had united with everything going on to form vivid scent-sound-and-sight filled memories.
I want that again this year. But I don’t yet have a soundtrack in mind. It can’t be the same Tedeschi Trucks Band album as last year since that already has my summer memories strung into it.
It needs to be something new, something I’ve never listened to before.
I need your help. Please comment below naming your favorite summer album. It can be a classic or something brand new, so long as it goes well with margaritas, sprinklers and BBQ sauce, it will be perfect.
Speaking of BBQ sauce, have I ever got an amazing homemade BBQ sauce recipe for you!
This BBQ sauce has some of the usual suspects: ketchup, brown sugar and garlic. But then it goes kind of crazy with sweet fresh mango, lime juice and a blast of chipotle. There’s also some butter in there to mellow the BBQ sauce out a bit and bring everything together.
It’s sweet, spicy, tangy and mellow all at once. I like it on chicken and pork. But note, because of the sweetness in the sauce, you don’t want to add it until the last few minutes of grilling time.
For a great recipe to serve this sauce with, be sure to also check out my grilled chicken for a crowd recipe.
Mango, Chipotle Lime BBQ Sauce: Sounds good, right?
Mango Chipotle Lime BBQ Sauce
Spicy and sweet, just like a good BBQ sauce should be! Slather this one onto chicken or pork for their last few minutes on the grill before you dig in and eat. Yield 1 and 1/2 cups of sauce.

- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tbsp. packed brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- Put the cubed mango, garlic clove, chipotle pepper and lime juice into a food processor.
- Process on high until everything is good and minced. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until very smooth.
